Stephen Welch is the Interim EVP/CEO for the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST), a 19,000-member medical society focused on education and philanthropy in the disciplines of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine. As a 22-year veteran of the organization, Steve has primarily overseen CHEST’s medical publishing and digital content business and strategy – and has served as Publisher of the organization’s flagship journal, CHEST. In addition, Steve has served on the executive leadership team of the organization for those 22 years, and has had the foresight and opportunity to develop and oversee CHEST’s marketing, communications, PR, and social media units, as well as spearheading international development and a number of enterprise-wide IT projects to ensure the ability of CHEST to make a global impact on lung health.
With his recent advancement to Interim CEO, Steve is leading the organization as it accomplishes its mission to educate physicians to ensure the provision of the best care for their patients. He is also heavily involved as a Life Member of the CHEST Foundation, the supporting philanthropic arm of the organization, and CHEST Enterprises, the for-profit subsidiary that focuses on industry and commercial education as well as big data projects.
On a more personal note, Steve is an avid and potentially rabid University of Iowa Hawkeye, and he scuba dives with large sharks for relaxation. True story.
